Traineeship
General
Program Information
Five geriatric teams of two, comprised of a pharmacist and a prescriber - a physician, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, or clinical nurse specialist - will be selected for participation in the traineeship. The traineeship
will be conducted Monday through Friday, October 22-26, at
McLean Hospital in Belmont, Massachusetts. There is a mandatory
orientation meeting on Sunday evening, October 21.
The
Interdisciplinary GeroPsych/Behavioral Disorders Traineeship
is supported by an educational grant from Forest Laboratories, Inc.

Please read this information and the Policies
and Guidelines carefully so you have a clear understanding of the traineeship
goals, structure, and content, and the application procedure.
Trainees
are responsible for all expenses related to travel, accommodations, meals,
and incidentals. Trainees must make their
own travel arrangements to the traineeship site. The ASCP Foundation will coordinate hotel accommodations, but trainees are responsible for payment. Trainees must arrive no
later than 3:00
p.m. Sunday preceding the traineeship for an evening orientation
session; departure is after 5:00 p.m. Friday.

NOTE THE FOLLOWING IMPORTANT INFORMATION
- The Interdisciplinary GeroPsych/Behavioral Disorders
Traineeship is a challenging program requiring familiarity
with pre-traineeship reading materials, advance preparation
of two case studies that will be used to illustrate important
therapeutic problems and issues during the traineeship:
and interaction with patients and the interdisciplinary
team at the traineeship site.
- Applicants
must be willing to interact directly with patients suffering
from various psychiatric and behavioral disorders,
including depression, agitation, Alzheimer’s disease
and related dementias, late life psychosis, delirium,
anxiety, and sleep disorders. Traineeship participants
will interact
with patients in an adult psychiatric inpatient hospital
dementia unit.
- The primary focus of the traineeship is
psychiatric illnesses, although other diseases and conditions
will be encountered.
- Traineeship participants are expected
to implement a geropsych/behavioral disorders collaborative
service at one or more of the
settings in which they presently work, or will work upon entering
into a new collaborative practice/business.
- After the
traineeship, participants are expected to become involved
with local mental health organizations, and
complete two case consults for which they made recommendations for
treatment or interventions to improve care of patients
with psychiatric and behavioral disorders.

Applications
for the traineeship will be evaluated, and applicants will
be notified of the outcome on or about August 24.
