You Asked! We Listened! We Acted! And Now We Need Your Help!

You asked for help in defining the role of the Consultant Pharmacist!

We listened and produced a DVD for use as an educational, informational and marketing tool!

And we’re still listening!

At this year’s ASCP Annual Meeting for 2015 we launched the Funding Research Campaign and we’ve already raised almost $5,000!

We’ll match every dollar contributed through the end of this year (using the "research" drop down on our website)... dollar for dollar...
to support a research grant dedicated to substantiating The Value of the Consultant Pharmacist.

All we need for you to do is consider making the ASCP Foundation a part of your year-end, tax deductible donation, and consider doing it now!

Please give now to support a worthy research project.

Thank you.

ASCP FOUNDATION RECEIVES GENEROUS BEQUEST

The ASCP Foundation, Alexandria, Virginia, has announced a bequest from the estate of Robert J. Miller, RPh, of Youngstown, New York and Sarasota, Florida, to support ongoing work and educational programs at the Foundation.

A renowned advocate with a passion for elder-care pharmacy and pharmacy education, Miller, who died in 2014 at the age of 77, mentored generations of students at his alma mater, the SUNY of Buffalo, as an adjunct clinical instructor from 1979 to 1998, where he also helped develop the geriatrics and long-term care curriculums; was a fellow at the UB School of Management's Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership, where he helped companies develop marketing and strategic plans; was an advisor to the Pharmacists Association of Western New York, helping to draft state legislation for collaborative pharmacy practices; was a Past President of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (2005-2006), and was active in many positions within the Foundation since its founding in 1982.

Additionally, Miller spent more than 20 years building a successful business in the Buffalo, New York area, focusing on long-term care consulting, dispensing, and senior care services, serving as president and chief executive officer until its acquisition in 1994. From 1994 on Miller continued as a consultant and mentor sharing his entrepreneurial wisdom with other companies and was a distinguished speaker, writer, sculptor and sailor.

"We are extremely excited and gratified to move our work forward with greater focus and commitment," said Frank Grosso, Executive Director of the Foundation. "We plan to increase our leadership role in eldercare pharmacy and pharmacy education as a result of this most generous bequest."

ASCP FOUNDATION SEEKING NEW/ADDITIONAL BOARD MEMBERS

In June of this year, the ASCP Foundation will be (re)selecting several new members to our Board of Trustees.

The Foundation is looking for board members who believe in our mission and are willing to be active in their governance roles. We believe that this work has never been more important than it is today. We are looking for individuals whose experience and involvement in the community would be an asset to our organization and we hope that you will recommend someone or yourself.

ASCP Foundation is entering a challenging and exciting time as economic pressures on our constituency increase and the demand for our services continues to rise. We have a tradition of high quality service and activism related to our constituency and we invite you to become part of our team.

While we do ask that our board members play an active role, we pride ourselves on supporting each other as a team and believe that we offer an opportunity for our members to learn and grow with the organization. Meeting time is about one hour per quarter and travel is not required.

If you wish to be considered, or submit a candidate for consideration, we ask that you complete our brief response form and forward a bio to info@ascpfoundation.org. by May 1, 2015.

ASCP FOUNDATION REPRESENTED AT AM14 IN ORLANDO

GROSSO NAMED ASCP FOUNDATION'S EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Frank Grosso, R.Ph., has been named Executive Director of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP) Foundation, as well as ASCP Executive Director/CEO. He will assume both positions on September 8, 2014.

A graduate of Albany College of Pharmacy, Grosso has 35 years of long-term care pharmacy experience at the executive and administrative levels not only with Genesis HealthCare, LLC, but also with NeighborCare Pharmacy and Fay's Drug.

Additionally, Mr. Grosso has been an ASCP member since 1981 serving on numerous key policy and advocacy committees, and a valued contributor and supporter of the Foundation for many years.

According to Grosso, "Health care reform continues to draw the professions of pharmacy into new territory, testing our ability to adapt to the continuously evolving role of pharmacy care experts. There is the need to incorporate new strategies and methods to address this changing environment and we see the Foundation as playing a vital role in the fostering and support of that change."

In announcing Mr. Grosso's new position, the ASCP Foundation Board of Trustees stated that it is "delighted to begin to work with our new Executive Director, Frank Grosso, R.Ph. In collaboration with Mr. Grosso, we look forward to expanding our sponsorship of and advocacy for Consultant Pharmacists recognizing the distinctive role they play in the safe practice of pharmaceutical care in both the long term arena and in the community at large."
